Wound Care Management

For most people, wound healing is a natural, uneventful process. A minor scratch or cut normally heals within a week, leaving only a faint scar or no trace at all. For some individuals, however, it becomes a complex medical problem requiring specialized treatment and care. Wounds that have not healed in 30 days are considered non-healing wounds and should receive medical care.

Our wound care department provides a multidisciplinary program of treatment and support services for the cost-effective management of acute and chronic wound problems. Treatments and interventions implemented are consistent with national guidelines, and scientific and expert clinical opinion.

We provide care to patients who require high acuity wound management for draining wounds and fistulae, and complex management of these acute or unstable chronic wounds. We take pride in the education of patients and families in areas related to wound management. Our team works with home health agencies and long-term care providers to ensure continuity of treatment protocols.

Patients may include those with the following diagnoses or conditions:

• Arterial Ulcers

• Venus Stasis Ulcers

• Diabetic Foot Ulcers

• Ischemic Ulcers

• Pressure Ulcers

• Degenerative Disease

• Amputation

• Burns

• Cellulitis

• Chronic Non-Healing Wounds

• Enterostomal Therapy

• Serious wound complications

• Post-Surgical or Post-Trauma

• IV therapy

The goals of our wound care team are to:

• Provide continuity of wound care
• Prevent or control infection
• Prevent premature wound closure
• Optimize drainage and remove necrotic tissue
• Educate patients on treatment and prevention
• Decrease hospitalizations

Modalities available

Our comprehensive wound management team is multidisciplinary and includes consulting physicians, enterostomal therapy (ET) nurses, physical therapists, dietitians, pharmacists, and case managers.
